Pool party

For her 8th birthday, Zoe wanted a pool party. The kids are recently obsessed with the water and Hayden is getting braver and braver when it comes to the deep end. We just bought him a new life jacket and he feels like a big kid now!

He also got a haircut "that sticks up" (a mohawk) so he is on top of the world.

He loves jumping in the water from the side of the pool and loves being able to "see the feets" while he's under the water with his goggles. He's a hoot. Neither one wanted to get out for pizza and cupcakes but they ate fast and got right back in.

This baby girl is fearless and loves swimming in her "wife jacket". Especially with her daddy!

Swim swim

We've been spending more time at the pool recently, since Germany has finally caught on that it's summer! We have a great pool just a few minutes from our house. It has indoor and outdoor facilities, so when it's a bit chilly we stick to the inside and let Hayden play in the bathwater-like kiddie pool, and test out the big pools to help him learn to kick and move his arms. On the warmer days, we enjoy the outside kiddie pool, the freeeeeezing big pool and the heated jacuzzi-like pool with jets, fountains and seats under the water to enjoy the sun and warm water. There's also a big slide and diving boards, Hayden has tested the former but is far too small for the latter!

He was definitely skeptical at first about the deep water, but instantly took to the water where he can touch the bottom and see his feet. The inside kiddie pool has a small slide and a fountain and blocks to play with, so Hayden is in kid-heaven once he sets foot in it. He gets a bit more adventurous in the water when dad holds him and swirls him around, and took the big slide like a champ! He loves to splash and play, and even cooperates when it's time to put on more sunscreen. The pool here spoils us, with all the room and inexpensive snack bars and grass to lay on, umbrellas to lay under, not to mention the multitude of pools to choose from. I think we have ourselves a water baby!

Summer fun

We've been enjoying our nice weather here in Germany lately. The sun is out, the wind is blowing and it's nearly summer! Last weekend we took a trip to the Volksfest, which is a lot like the Dixie Classic fair back home. There are games and rides, but no petting zoo or prize-winning crops! We took Hayden on his first ferris wheel ride, and he had a blast! I was stressed out the whole time but Jay had a good hold on him. He tasted a slushie, napped in his stroller and had a blast walking around the fest grounds. He loves to be outside!

On Monday we took Hayden to the Silvana, which is the pool here. It was cloudy and cool so we took advantage of the indoor, heated pools. We had tried to go on Sunday but after all the sunscreening and packing, we discovered it was way too busy for us! Monday was nice and calm, and a great atmosphere for Hayden's first swimming adventure. He loved the water, and was so cute in his baby swim trunks. He doesn't like to get water in his ears, and at the end got a little scared when he swallowed some water. But all in all, it was a great experience for all of us!

Hayden is getting stronger and stronger, and he's working really hard at getting from his belly to the sitting/leaning position. He's not quite crawling yet, but has mastered the "Army low-crawl" where he drags his body by his arms. It's a lot of fun to watch, especially when we keep moving the toys out of his reach.
