Race for the Cure

This year I served as team captain for the Salem Alumnae team for Race for the Cure. Numbers were down, largely in part to the Susan G. Komen/Planned Parenthood PR nightmare, but we showed up early Saturday morning ready to race for a cure. Lila came along with me, and got her first taste of fundraising, service and Salem sisterhood!!

We met for our team photo, snapped a few pics and hung out for a bit before the race started. We managed to get ourselves right up front at the Start line and watched Cindy Farmer kick the race off with some fun. I was so excited to be walking with three of the girls I recruited to Salem, who graduated in 2009. What a treat! I remember these ladies as high school seniors and now they're grown up, graduated and some are even married. They were excited to meet Lila in person, since they see her on Facebook every day.

We finished the race (no one paid attention to our time, as we were the non-competitive group) and were glad for overcast skies, instead of the 90 degrees that we were anticipating. Unfortunately after the 5k, I still had a good uphill climb with the stroller to get back to my car, so I had a nice workout for the day! Lila was a champ, sleeping through miles 1 and 3 and waking up for the pretty part through downtown Winston-Salem. I'm excited to bring her again next year!

Ugh

Today, I am utterly frustrated with work. I am discouraged. I am annoyed. It is rare that I get overwhelmed at work, and that coupled with extremely negative feedback and bad attitudes made for a long, crappy day. Luckily, the people I work with directly a) have been there before and therefore b) totally get it; and c) are cool about picking up the slack while I'm losing my mind.

I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things for dinner with the full intent to bake baby key lime cupcakes. But then I realized I forgot a pivotal ingredient, so that went out the window. I walked in the door tired, frustrated and just a little bit sad. It's tough to work really hard on something with several people and to finally have it come together...only to have a few outsiders totally rip it apart.

Then I was almost tackled by a little ball of energy with white-blonde hair as I walked in the door. He was so excited to see me, and so excited to tell me about his lunch box (I had made him a lunch for Nana and Papaw's visit and packed it in his lunch box). I wish I had the ability, like my son, to be so grateful and excited for the smallest gesture. And then I heard an excited little squeal coming from the living room, where my baby girl was watching the fan go 'round and 'round and was absolutely fascinated. Her little round face exploded into a smile and that was the nail in the coffin that put this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day in the grave. I snuggled my babies, sent Jay off to work, yelled at the dogs, ate leftovers and put Lila-bean down for bed. Hayden and I played Memory and now I'm watching him try to fit all the cards onto his bulldozer. I love watching his little brain work as he figures things out. And I did a little craft project last night that Jay actually liked (!) that I can't wait to finish and put up.

Tomorrow is a new day, but I'm betting I'll let my little bundle of energy lay in my bed for a few extra minutes.

Silly boy

Last week I was on the phone with Jay when I heard Hayden in the background.

Hayden: Daddy, why aren't you 'sweep?
Jay: Because I'm awake.
Hayden: Nooooooo, no daddy. You need be 'sweep. If mommy comes home, she gon' spank your butts!

Apparently Hayden prefers daddy to sleep in! Whenever he wants to Jay to be awake, he runs to his bed and says, "Daddy! Wake up! Wake up, it's springtime!!"

Three months old!

How is it possible that Lila is already three months old? It seems like just yesterday we brought home this 7 pound baby from the hospital!

Lila has changed so much in three short months! She has developed such a personality already. It's easy to tell if she likes something or not. She loves Hayden, who can always calm her down and make her smile. She lights up when she sees one of the three of us, and likes the dogs too. She has started grabbing...my hair, her clothes, and the animals that hang from her play mat. She watches us like a hawk when we eat, watching the food go from plate to mouth, and she's starting to hate the bath a little less. I won't go so far as to say she loves it, but she doesn't mind it much. Her little cradle cap has retreated to the top of her head, where it's supposed to be! She is such a sweet, calm baby. We are a lucky family for sure!

Love these two <3

Logic

Oh the mind of a three-year-old. Last week I told Hayden, "Today is Oscar's birthday!" Hayden pondered this for a minute and then said, "But he doesn't talk." Somehow, in his head those two facts were in direct conflict with one another.

Mr. & Mrs. Davis!

Katie and Dustin got married!

They had a small family ceremony on April 15th at Tanglewood, and I was so honored to be there to see them exchange vows.

After the ceremony we headed to Graylyn for drinks and dinner, and cake of course! Such a beautiful day to get married, and to celebrate the love that two people share.
